AUDITIONS FOR THE CHORALE

Interested in being a member of the ensemble? Do you sing? Do you have what it takes to perform at the highest levels of the choral arts? The HCC keeps a fairly busy performance and education program throughout the year. Members of the ensemble are paid for their participation. As you would expect, as the region’s professional vocal ensemble, the highest possible standards for performance is our goal. Singers in the ensemble are regularly trained (in service, on-the-job training) and new singers are auditioned throughout the year.

Auditions are conducting in the following manner:

1) to start the process, you must complete the application (in PDF format below…simply print and complete the form and mail or fax to the HCC office) .

2) Once an application has been received, an initial interview is scheduled with the director or associate director, during which time a basic skills exam is conducted to qualify you for an audition before the section leaders.

3) Provided you are qualified, an audition is scheduled during which time you will perform two contrasting selections for the section leaders of the ensemble.

4) If you have a successful audition, you are at this stage fully qualified to join the ensemble. Since there are a limited number of positions in the ensemble, it is possible that a position for your qualified voice part is not open, in which case you will have to wait until a position is open. As soon as a position is available, you will take your place among the singers for an initial three-month probationary period.

5) After the initial three-month period, the singer receives a performance review and a decision about status is determined (dismissal, continued probation or full-fledged member of the ensemble).

Although most new singers join the Chorale during the summer, you may audition for the HCC at any time throughout the year.

Heartland Chamber Chorale programs are provided with support from:
Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne (a local agency), the Indiana Arts Commission (a state agency), and the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency).
